In July 2026, a special issue of The Court Historian (Vol. 31, No. 2, July 2026), entitled Queenship in Central Europe and Beyond: Reconsidering the Power of Title, Intercession and Rumour, was published.

The thematic issue explores the power, authority, and political agency of queens in medieval Central Europe, placing Bohemian queenship within a broader European context. It is the first special issue of an English-language academic journal devoted to Bohemian queenship.

The issue is edited by Patrik Paštrnák and Věra Soukupová. Together with Anna Jagoš and Zuzana Bolerazka, they examine different manifestations of queenship, ranging from titulature and intercession to rumour.

The special issue grew out of the sessions Networking from the Centre: Queenship in Medieval Central Europe, presented at the International Medieval Congress in Leeds in 2022.

The Court Historian: The International Journal of Court Studies is a leading international academic journal dedicated to the study of royal and princely courts and court culture across a broad chronological and interdisciplinary spectrum.

All articles in the special issue are published open access and are therefore freely available online. In our upcoming posts, we will introduce the individual articles in more detail.
